As first post of this guide to beginners, I will start by the most basic and elemental thing which is the Blog.
What Is A Blog ?
This site is a blog! may be the meaning could be taken as something obvious but it’s not for everybody, in fact, there is a lot of people with some idea about what is it, but they don’t know exactly its meaning. “Blog” have some many meanings, so lets check some of them:
A blog is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Source Wikipedia
Blog — (weB LOG) A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. Source BlogsCanada
A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Source Blogger
Blogs, or weB logs, are basically online journals or diaries which are great for sharing information and ideas. Source BBC
If you still with a doubt, lets collect all those meanings in a single one. Basically a blog is a space on the net, a website where you can share your ideas, your knowledge or simply your life, just like a diary. The entries or posts are displayed in reverse chronological order, this mean that the last entries are displayed in the top, this way your visitors can read the last written content.
The Comments
For each entry, the visitors can make comments and share their ideas about the related topic. This way, you as blogger – blog administrator – can reply those comments, making the entry some fun and nice to read.
You have the authority to approve or decline any comment, even you can add an option to moderate the comments, and those won’t be displayed until you read and approve the proper comment. In the most of comments, the visitors drop their blog link to expand their network, but this technique will be taken in other post.
The Archives
“The archives” is a list with all the entries posted on your blog. You can manage this list by year, month, week or even by day, but the most common kind of archives are listed by month, is the most reasonable taking the fact that it can reduce this list quite a good way, much more than if you do it per week or day.

Hey! my name is Javier but you can call me Javo, everybody does.
Wow. I never realised how basic all this knowledge is to us Bloggers.
Well this is the most basic, some many bloggers manage their blogs using this features but they do not handle the concept.
Just to say that you have a great load of information about blogs here. I’m new to this and I’me just trying to find out about blogs, and what blogs are for and how blogs work etc.
I am reading your posts and learning a lot about how blogs work.
I hope you don’t mind a suggestion from a newbie?
…I suggest you include the following link to your ‘course topics’ page – to help navigation for other newbies like myself:

Hello Pete, I’m glad to help you to understand the basics of blogging… You can find that URL in the top of my blog, beside the “Contact Me” button… As you could see, there you can find the basics of blogging.
I write those posts eventually, so if you don’t find something don’t be afraid to write me an email, I would be glad to write a post about your question…
