Using RSS To Boost Your Blog

September 19th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

RSS or Real Simple Syndication is the most common way to deliver the latest content of a blog to its readers. Have you noticed its buzz in the latest years? It has converted in a perfect way to connect a website with its readers. Every day, a RSS feed updates itself and this way the people can check the latest articles through a rss reader such Google Reader or Bloglines instead visiting the blog.

Although RSS is to deliver updated content, you can use it to enhance your performance in your marketing activities. How? Let’s review some of that techniques:

  • Introduce your RSS into rss directories and search engines: On internet there are a several specialized directories, search engines and content aggregators available that you can use to expand your RSS. By submitting your RSS to these sites, you will be exposing your latest articles to millions of internet users who can be potential readers, and probably capturing some of them.
  • Display external RSS sources to improve your blog’s content: Have you visited blogs with a widget on their sidebar that displays external RSS feeds? Well, this can be good and bad and I’m going to tell you why. The idea here is to display feeds which relates your blog’s niche. If your have poor content on your blog, your readers can start leaving through these feeds, and possibly never coming back. In  the other hand, if the content of your blog is good enough, those external feeds will complement your content with news, offers and related articles. This way, your blog will be attractive as much for your readers as for the search engines.
  • Use your RSS to promote: Your RSS is an excellent way to spread in addition to your latest articles, other things such a good promotion, product or service. You can do this by using the header or the footer of your articles with the help of the plugin called RSS Footer, which you can add a html code and it will be automatically displayed on your feeds.
  • Use your RSS to remind: With the same plugin I mentioned in the latest lines, you can add a little message to your feeds such a copyright or reminder. You can remind to your readers subscribing to your newsletter or entering to a contest, it’s up to you!
  • Sell a text line on your RSS: Once again, the great RSS Footer plugin attacks, and this time is to give you a direct monetary profit. You can use it as advertising, selling a text-line of 50~80 characters for some bucks a month.

As you can see, there are many ways to use your RSS to enhance your marketing activities, some of them are very useful ( as the first tip ) because they can give you backlinks to your blog, improving your rankings on search engines.

In the case of the RSS Footer plugin, as you could see it depends of your imagination. You can use it of many manners which certainly will help you to make a kind of broadcasting among your readers.

June 5th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

Hello everybody, as I told you yesterday, the post of today will be related to the suggestion made through my Skribit. Now, I’m going to give you some tips to increase the amount of readers in your blog  .

To survive, the blogs need to have readers. The readers are a factor which can determinate the grade of success of a blog. A blogger can be the best of the Internet, but if he has not readers, it will be difficult to him to reach his goals ( as blogger ).

A primary goal of the bloggers is to have more readers. More than yesterday or the past week, but it’s too important to increase your readers to reach the success you want. But sometimes, is not too easy to catch the people who stop by your blog. So let’s check some tips to increase these amount of readers:

  1. Good Content: Obviously, if your content is not good, the people will not read it. Writing quality content you will catch more people than you think. Remember, quality is best than quantity!!.
  2. Taking part in Social Media Networks: This is very important if you want to expand your network and increase your subscribers. On Internet there are many social networks where you can socialize, make friends and share your blog posts! But is not enough by signing up, plus you need to be an active member to attract the people’s attention.
  3. Making Contests: This is a good way to get more readers, and I will tell you why. The people like to participate in all these activities where they can win something for free. So you can give away whatever: entrecredits, banners, textlinks…. The truth is that you will get more readers if you know how to promote that contest.
  4. Making Polls: Polls are a good tool because they can give you indicatives about a specific topic, but also, it can improve the amount of readers in your blog. Just make sure to place the widget in a visible area, so the people could vote easily.
  5. Buying Advertising: Buying advertising, for example banners, textlinks or a review, will improve considerably your readers. If you advertise on JohnChow, thousand people will see your banner in a single day. So imagine how many people will see your banner, and visit your site in a month!?.

For now I could think on these five ways to increase your readers, but surely there are many more, I don’t know everything! Would be nice to hear some suggestions from you, this way we could learn together  .

What’s A Backlink And How To Get It

February 19th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

Everybody in the blogsphere talk about backlinks, and may be you can’t understand what are they talking about, but really the meaning of backlink is very simple. A backlink is an incoming link to a website, is any link received by a web page, directory, website, blogs etc etc… from another website. The Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

How are they useful to my website?

backlinks

The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of your blog or website. While more backlinks you have, more higher will be your popularity and ranking on search engines. A backlink represent like your signature, getting backlinks for everywhere means like if you were in all those sites, imagine what would you think if you visit 30 sites and you see my banner or link for example, you probably will think “this guy is everywhere, he’s popular!”

Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the factors for determining that website’s search engine ranking. For example, Google’s PageRank algorithm uses backlinks to help determine a site’s rank. Therefore, websites often employ various techniques called search engine optimization to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website.

Due to the abuse of using paid links to improve Google partially updated their Page Rank Tool to pin against paid links providers and the forward link of sites. This action resulted in a significant decrease in Page Rank of many websites worldwide. However although many believe that Google penalizes people for having unrelated backlinks to their blogs/websites, this has never been confirmed.

Some techniques to gain Backlinks

There are many paths to consider when building links to your site or blog such as link baiting or blogroll link swapping. There are many techniques to get backlinks but I will provide you only the most commons.

  • Submitting your blog in web directories and social networks: This is a good way to get some backlinks, submitting your blog in social networks, also in directories like BlogCatalog or Blogarama. You should search for directory sites that are indexed deep (with too many backlinks), directories that are specific to your niche/category and directories where your category is not too crowded (almost impossible). There is a list of 20 essential blog directories to submit your blog.
  • Commenting on Dofollow blogs: Dofollow blogs are blogs that give you a backlink just for commenting at them, doing this you will start to generate backlinks to your site as you have no idea, but don’t be a spammer!. If you don’t know what’s Dofollow, please check my guest post on JoeTech.
  • Exchanging links with other blogger: this is very common, you can see in the most of blogs a blogroll section. Try to visit and comment frequently in a blog and after some weeks, you could contact the blogger and ask for a link exchange.
  • Buying Text Links or Banners: plus text links, the banners also provide you a backlink. Before to buy, try to do an exchange…

My ideas disappeared  ! if you find another way to generate backlinks please comment it in this post!!

Backlink Tools

  • BackLinkWatch: this website is able to track every backlink to your site.
  • BackLinkSpot: this website can provide you blogs and websites with dofollow attributes, letting you to find where you can drop your link to drink some of the juice of search engines backlinks.
  • Technorati: with technorati you can track your backlinks!, they call them “reactions“. Following them, you will find the blogs which drop a backlink to you.

As you could notice, is very important for every website or blog to get backlinks. This way you will improve your rank on search engines and attract more traffic to your web, attracting the people attention  .
