Is Spottt Another Entrecard?

February 17st, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

I have been seeing a new widget in some blogs, it’s called Spottt ( yes with triple t ). I feel curious and I decide to click it, linking me to the service website.

Spottt gay

This is a new service of the Adbrite’s people, it’s a system very similar to entrecard, you can get advertise in a blog which use this widget, everything for free. But there is a lot of differences between Entrecard and Spottt, let’s check them out:

Entrecard vs Spottt

As you can see, Spottt is not an Entrecard clone, but rather it acts exactly like Blogrush for 125×125 ads because it gives you credits based on pageviews, and automatically spends your credits to distribute your ad automatically across the net on autopilot. It’s truth that Entrecard in first instance wanted to copy the blogrush model, but they broke this idea and going upper. Spottt wants to do the same, indeed sounds better than blogrush don’t you think? A 125×125 ad is most significant that a simple link, starting because you can use the image that represent your blog.

Advertising Control

Something that I dislike from spottt is that you cannot control who advertise on your site, this mean that you can sponsor any kind of blog. Also, in the other money face, you can’t control where to advertise your blog, so as you could imagine, your 125×125 will be randomly over the web no matter the niche of your blog.

The Network

In the Spottt’s network are too many kind of websites. Spottt lets anyone in the network, including myspace profiles, affiliate stores, and more. Entrecard instead, is only for high quality blogs. This insures that any Entrecard ad you click brings you to a high quality blogs.

Also I noticed that Spottt isn’t social, you can’t view who is the network, send messages, recommend someone, participate in forums, you don’t need to drop a card or something, you only need to place the widget in your site and it will start to “generate” traffic. :???:

About Credits

Like in Entrecard, you have credits in Spottt. For what you can use those credits? for nothing!!! you have not control of them, this mean that you earn credits with pageviews and then, they spend automatically in advertising and there is no way to know where is your widget. Instead in Entrecard is much better, you can send credits to users, spend it in the shop for SEO tips, reviews and more…

Conclusion

I will try this service but if you take a look in the table you won’t like so much. However this service is new, so I think then they will start to add new features and I will be here to notice you about it.

Sure Shanker, I’ll try it too for a couple of weeks, I dislike the idea but I have a hope because it works with a 125×125 ad.

….. it’s exactly like blogrush, I’ve earned million credits for nothing. Thanks for share this statistics in this community.

Nice comparison. BlogRush was a total bust for me. The traffic coming from it was miniscule.

The thing I like about Entrecard is having control over who advertises on my site. The fact that Spottt doesn’t let me do that is a major drawback. I won’t waste my time with them.

Same here Hock, I got a couple of traffic from blogrush, that’s why I removed from my sidebar. I told you that I would test spottt, but I really won’t, I simply don’t link this project.

Entrecard is much better, it worth and brings you a social network, and that’s the point to be success on this kind of things.

You’ve got some free advertising spots, what’s the harm in trying it out and seeing if it brings you any additional traffic/visitors?

I’ve never heard of Spottt.

I guess that’s how the web is going to go. A service comes out, and we’ll get 3-4 more right after it that are essentially the same.

I’m trying out Spott right now, but am still unsure about it.

I like to have a bit more control than they’re willing to offer… Besides, the social side of Entrecard is of so much value. On the other hand, since you don’t have to spend any time on Spott, it’s easy traffic and as long as I don’t get really bad ads on my site, I’ll leave it on.

I suppose they’ll be adding stuff to their services soon. They’re experiencing a big boom of interest right now. Especially from the Entrecard community.
