How long should be a post? This is a great question which someone asked me by email. This is somewhat relative, because every blogger has a different way to think and write their thoughts. Some of them like to keep the post relatively short, and other ones likes to write as crazies, writing a post with 1000 words or even more.
Remember that it’s better quality than quantity. Is better to write a short post with quality than to write a long post without quality. With a good post, being this one short or long, you can attract many people who could comment in your post and subscribe to your RSS feed. Aside this, by writing a poor post you won’t get anything from the readers, instead, you will frighten them.
The length of a post depends of how informative will it be, for example If you are going to announce a contest, it can take you 200 words, being good for everybody. Instead, if you are going to write about a very discussed topic, you should write a good amount of content with some interesting points, if you don’t, your readers won’t have any content to discuss!.
Another important thing you need to remember, is to be accurate. If the post is about Marketing, don’t end talking about Fishing. You should stick into the main topic, and its relatives… People could get bored if you write about an information that they were not expecting to read about. This usually happens when the blogger is not clear about the topic he wants to write about. May be he can be clear, but sometimes, while you are writing a post, many ideas can cross your mind. If you don’t know how to differentiate them, you can mixx all those ideas and get a twister of thoughts on your post.
Conclusion
Before to start writing, you should organize your ideas. I recommend you to set priorities, tags or keywords, which you could clear your mind and this way, you will be writing a good post. The post length is not too important, as long as you write good content and keep your thoughts focused in a point. You can mixx all your ideas, which is normal because that’s the point of blogging, but if your ideas are not ordered with certain sense, no matter if your post is long or short, it will suck!
Remember, it’s up to you

Well, all my posts are more and less of the same length, not short but neither too long…
First off all, I must say your blog looks really great!
Many good plugins, and comfortable design.
Second, the length of your blog posts should be fit to the content. – And not too long, unless you have really engaged readers, and a very spesific theme.
I prefer to have a short intro, and go straight to the point. After all, time is money
And personally, I prefer to read short, yet informative posts myself, that gives me value. So I always try to keep my posts this way.
Nice job!

Hey Preben, welcome to my blog. I have written an article about the post structure, where I talk about the “short intro” mentioned by you
.
As you say, no matter how long or short your post is, the important thing is to give valuable information to your readers…
you are absolutely right, the important is the quality of the content , thanks

You’re right; depends on the topic. If I’m telling an andecdote about something that happened, that’s hard to put into less than 200 words. Thing is, I make sure it’s relevant to my blog, and yet another thing that my readers can respond to. I am trying to do some shorter posts too, for my short attention span readers, but I can be a bit wordy! Working on that, though! Great advice.

I cary. It depends on the topic. But I have seen succesful bloggers that post 200 word articles and ones that write them as long as essays! Great thought.

Great and informative content here. Love it.
Certainly Tom, because it depends of the blogger like I said…
i too am not sure where the 200 word count has come from, but many “pro” bloggers say to write at least that number —- baloney i say. write what’s needed and make it intelligent! (and write often)
best
I prefer succinct and short posts – the more poignant, the better. Maybe I have ADD or something but if a post just drags on and on and on, I just stop reading it.

I agree, it should be simple. Long or short, write until you’ve made your point, no more or less.
I do tend to babble a bit though. my blogs are for the beginner, so I want to be “thorough”
