Hi readers, today I was asking myself about what make a blog more or less successful, and all my thoughts pointed to you, the readers! If you take a minute to analyze it, you will know what I’m talking about. The readers are the most important of a blog because you give us, to the bloggers, the motivation to continue writing and doing our best, just for you.
So this is somewhat reciprocal, because you are expecting something about me, and I’m expecting another thing about you. Daily, perhaps you are waiting a post from me, but for some reasons, I can’t post everyday, for example. Also, when I write something, I will be expecting your reactions, as comments or responses’ posts, but in your case, you could not visit my blog everyday.
So when the communicative channel is broken by some of these issues, the readers doesn’t match with the blogger, loosing the interest from both parts. So, to avoid all those problems, as blogger I will give you 6 tips to build relationships with your readers and take advantages of it:
- Contact the new readers: Contacting the new readers could be one of the best things you can do, because it will impress those readers, as well they will visit your blog again and probably, they will become a regular readers. You can contact them through email or through social medias, giving them a welcome message that probably will be the beginning of a good friendship.
- Contact the old readers: Everybody can get stuck in a blog, just for a time. Regularly, if you don’t contact the reader through any way, you can’t “lose” the reader in two months or even less. But I wrote “lose” because you can never lose them, they will be there, able to read your blog when they want, just they could lose the interest in your blog. It’s good to send them an email to remind them your blog’s existence, this way you will have all your readers coming back to your blog regularly.
- Add them in social media networks: Normally, I received many requests of people who read and like my blog. It’s great to be requested, but why can’t you add them!? Although you could be the blogger, requesting their friendship in social medias could make an impact on their point of view about you.
- Replying their comments: This point follows the communication’s principle. If you are talking with someone, you don’t want to be ignored. Instead, you want to hear his answer and feel a nice communicative wave between you, and the blogger in this case. So, you should reply the comments of your readers if you don’t want to be slapped, don’t make them feel ignored!
- Ask them questions: By asking to your readers a question, you can improve your relationship with them. Of course, you should find a proper question for them, you won’t want to ask something off topic. Also, if they ask you something, your must is to answer them
. - Meet them: I don’t know you, but I dislike to talk with someone without knowing his name. I suggest you to meet them, personally if it’s possible. If it’s not, you could at least chat with them regularly. By chatting with them, will increase the level of reliability between you and your reader.
You have read it!!. To keep your readers coming back to your blog (besides writing good content) you should consider all the tips listed above. Do you have another strategies? I would like to read about them

Thanks David. As you said, it’s very important to keep up relationships with new and old readers, they will be the key of your success.
Nice tips here. Just to add to your reply comment. Its useful as well to thank them for commenting or any additional insight they add.
If I had one more to add, I’d suggest to do something for them. If they are a blogger, social bookmark their articles, or compliment them or mention them in your own blog. Doing something for them will definitely help to engage them more and become a loyal reader.
