Using AideRSS To Take Advantages From Your Feed

August 29th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

The feed is one of the most important things in a blog, through it the people can follow you and get the lastest post of your blog without visiting it. What if you think about it, what can the bloggers get from it? I mean, what are the benefits that you can get from your own blog’s feed? First of all, you don’t subscribe to your own feed, unless you want to test a plugin to display a kind of copyright (such the RSS Footer plugin) or to check how your images are being displayed.

Really, there is not another profit you can get from your own feed, apparently. The last week I found a powerful and sweet service which can give you many useful statistics from your feed.

With AideRSS you can score, filter and track the performance of any RSS feed.This means that you can spy other bloggers’ feed if you want :twisted: , so be careful. Everything is possible thanks to the PostRank™, which is a scoring system that they have developed to rank each article on relevance and reaction. It is a core part of the AideRSS engine that works to ensure that this digital assistant is helping you to tame the RSS beast and keep your news stream manageable.

Let’s go to the best part, I recorded a video tutorial but I have problems by encoding it so let’s do it with images:

Step 1. Once you are in the homepage, type the feed you want to analyze on the bar and click Analyze.

Step 2. You will be redirected to the main panel. Over there you can find the information related to the latest posts on the feed you are analyzing. You will find the best info by clicking TOP 20.

Step 3. There you will find the information related to the top 20 posts on the blog.

The information presented here can help you to determine what worked for you in the past, and with this you can have a hint of what kind of content you should write in future posts. Something particular I noticed was the title of 8 of those 20 top posts were questions, giving me the clue that people like that kind of posts, so I should analize the content and writing style and try to write something similar in a future.

Another interesting thing you can do with that info is combine it with your traffic statistics and determine you best posts ever. You can use that articles as landing pages when you are commenting in other blogs. After then, when the people visit your blog through that comment you will give them something good to read and probably you could get a subscriber.

The most interesting thing of AideRSS is that you can analyze any feed. I’m not suggesting you to copy the content or anything like that, instead, you can use that information to see what worked for other bloggers in a past, what they covered and may be that can give you many ideas to develop in a deeper way something “uncovered” by other blogger.

Now, it’s time for you to play with this, I hope you like it!

Are You Ready For The Change?

August 28th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

Hi readers, first of all, I want to thank to all of you because without its readers, this blog would be nothing. Constantly I’m thinking different ways to improve the blog besides the readers experience, so now I want to tell you what I have been thinking all the last week, so I would like to read your feedback about it.

Main changes you will see next on Mr. Javo dot Com

  • New Theme: I have designed a theme for my blog, with another colors different than actuals. This theme is more serious and more professional, I think you will love it. Since some time ago, I wanted to change my actual theme but it’s a little expensive to get an unique theme, so I was saving… Then, I think about the possibility to make a theme by myself ( I have some designer skills ) and I start looking for tutorials or guides on Youtube and through the blogosphere. After a long research, I found a tutorial ( part of an ebook ) to create your own theme. So I have been checking it, and I noticed it’s not too hard to make your own theme, the hardest part is the coding, but there are many guides including in the official page of wordpress where you can find those things.
  • A Newsletter: I will get the service provided by Aweber to make the newsletter. By subscribing to it, you will receive several information that regular readers won’t have access, such as eBooks, special offers, special tips, reports and other exclusive content I have in mind.
  • Fixed Categories: I will edit all the categories, there are some of them which I don’t use anymore and the articles published under those categories are not relevant.

Another things I’m going to do

  • Reward Commentators: At the end of the month, I’m going to reward the user with more comments on my blog. I have some rewards on mind: Blog reviews, 125×125 banners, Text Links, Guest Posts… But take care of this, I’m not going to reward any spammer. I will reward a person with relevant comments, so if the first person with more comments was spamming, I’m going to reward the second one.
  • Q&A Rounds: I will write posts answering your questions. Of course, only if you have questions :grin: .
  • Guest Posts: I love to see other blogs growing up. So, I thought on publish 1 or 2 guest posts per moth. I will let you register at this blog but you will have privileges of subscriber. If you want to publish something, send me an email using the contact form and I will give you privileges of contributor. Note: I will publish only good and quality content, I don’t want spammers who want to promote their own pages. I will give you in a future the rules to write guest posts here.

I have more ideas on my schedule but I don’t want to tell you everything! :lol: If you have any suggestion to improve this blog, I would like to read them.

Building A Business Through Blogs – Part Three

August 27th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

In the previews lessons of this series I talked about the importance of Selecting a Niche and Planning your Strategies. In this third part, I’m going to talk about everything you need to know when you are creating the blog. I wanted to write this post earlier but I couldn’t because of its dense content. I will cover this part with sub-chapters, to make it easier to understand.

3. Create A Blog

3.1 Choose a Brand Name

Before thinking in the hosting or theme for your blog, you need to think about your brand. This is not an easy step, because sometimes it’s hard to decide something, specially because there are a lot of blogs over there and the brand you are thinking to adopt could be in use.

So, think well about the name you want to be represented by, because once you start promoting yourself with a brand, you should not change it. Catchy and short names are perfect for your selection. Once you have selected a brand name, you can use it as the title of your blog.

3.2 Choose your Keywords and Taglines

This is a very important step because the keywords will determine your ranking on the search engines such Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, etc… There are a couple of free tools which you can use to select your keywords:

- Traffic Travis: This is a good tool which you can take your market research, search engine optimization and PPC campaigns to a whole new level with this suite of tools.

- Digital Point Keyword Suggestion: This is a web based application of the DigitalPoint’s team.

- Google Keyword SandBox: Use the Keyword Tool to get new keyword ideas. You need to give a few descriptive words or phrases to get the keywords.

- Google Sets: Another great tool of Google. You need to type some words and you will get a list of related keywords.

- Good Keywords: This is a simple and good Windows software to find the right keywords for your web pages.

I recommend you to use all those tools to get your keywords, and after then start merging the results. This way you will get a more accurate result.

3.3 Choose a Logo

The logo it’s very related to the Brand. In this case, it’s not 100% up to you, at least you are a designer. If it’s not your case, you can pay for a logo. There are many people (including me) willing to design a logo for your website or blog for a cheap price at DigitalPoint Forums. So you need to describe what do you want, the colors you want to have in your logo and the designer will do the hard work for you.

3.4 Choose a Theme

You can get a free theme to start, but I recommend you to get a personalized design specially for you. There are many companies which you can contact to create your theme: Unique Blog Designs, Weborithm, Reality Hosting etc… Also, if you have web design skills, you can create your own WP-Theme. If it’s the case, I highly recommend you to check the guides of WPDesignder, he has a very useful material there.

3.5 Get a Domain & Hosting

This step supposes to be easy, but it’s not. Getting a good domain could be a very hard task, specially if you looking for a domain which includes some of your keywords. There are many good domains already taken, and when you think you have found a good one, you notice it’s taken too. I usually use Godaddy to verify domain names, also you can use their Bulk Register tool to search domains based in the keywords you want.

Then, talking about the hosting I don’t recommend you to use GoDaddy. It seems to be cheap, but it’s really not. It’s truth that you can get a hosting for $6 a month, but when you start adding more services like php support, infinite subdomains and that kind of things, the bill flies like a rocket. So, I recommend you to use BlueHost, you pay $7 a month with no hidden fees, and by joining them you get a $50 coupon to advertise on Google, and a $25 coupon to advertise on Yahoo.

Wow what a large article, it has over 700 words! Well, I hope this lesson can help you to create your blog. I tried to cover everything but may be I missed something, so if you think I need to add something else to this phase, don’t be afraid to leave your comment :cool: .

The Importance Of Masking Your Affiliate Links

August 26th, 2008

Written by Mr Javo

Some days ago, I noticed someone linked one of my posts related to an affiliate program and checking the statistics, I saw that many people left my blog through the affiliate link, something good for me. Yesterday, I was checking that affiliate panel to verify how many people joined to my network, but I couldn’t find those affiliates… what happened here?

Loosing Your Referrals

Many people when you invite them to a network through your referral link, delete your referral code to give you nothing of their sales. Here is how it works:

Step 1 - Copy Link Location

Step 2 – Paste the link in the bar and select the affiliate code

Step 3 – Delete the referral code and load the page

So, if you load https://users.marketleverage.com/ you will be redirected to http://www.marketleverage.com/ . After then, the people will join to the program by “themselves” and you won’t get any commission for that.

This is a really bad problem because you are losing money, you could be earning a lot of commissions from the people who didn’t join with the referral link you gave them. And this problem is not only on affiliate programs, there is another services like Plurk which you can join with a referral link, giving some karma points to the person who invited you.

Of course, not everybody do this for bad. Sometimes the people are reading a post very quick because they need to go or something like, and when someone invite them to a network they don’t click the link, instead they memorize or take a note of the network’s name. Then when they have time, they search on google for this network to know more about it, joining to it without a referral link.

How To Solve This Problem

Some time ago, I noticed many bloggers sharing their referral codes in a different way, I thought it was a plugin or something like that… May be you have seen this before, something like theblog.com/out/marketleverage.php for example. Well, this is called Link Masking, and you can do that to protect your affiliate links.

When someone click on that link, it will be redirected to your referral link, avoiding the steps explained above. But the question is… How do I make that php file? Well honestly, it can be a html or htm file because the little code don’t use any special php function, but it’s more common to use that extension because wordpress is written in that language…

However, you need to follow the next steps to create that file:

Step 1 – Open a new text file and copy this:

<html>
<head>
<title>Your-Referral-Tittle-Here</title>
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">
<script> window.location="your-referral-link-here"; </script>
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="1; url=your-referral-link-here">
</head>

<body>

<p align="center">You are being taken to the correct page.
<br>If the page doesn't load after 5 seconds, <a href="your-referral-link-here">click here</a>.</p>
</body>
</html>

Step 2 – Save that file as thenetwork.php, i.e. marketleverage.php.

Step 3 – Use an FTP program ( I use filezilla ) to create a folder into the main directory, you can call it out, links, go or whatever you want. I called it go.

Step 4 – Upload the .php file to the created directory.

So then, you need to create a file for each referral code you want to share. This way, you will protect all your referral links and you won’t lose anything in a future.

Enjoy protecting your affiliate links!
