Should You Sell Your Blog?
Written by Mr. Javo
Hey there, today I read something that I never expected. One of big popular bloggers aka “John Cow” is selling him blog! What do you think about it?
I think a blog is unique, because it depends of a personality. You could like to read a blog just for the funny comments the author does, or for the way he say the things. However, this is unique! and the new owner will not be the same, although he work under the same nick name.
Once you sell your blog, it will still alive. The people will still reading it, but it will be not the same. At least, the subscribers, or the people who follow a blogger daily, feel him as a friend. Once you leave them, they will not want to go back to the blog.
That is my opinion, but you don’t need to follow it if you are not agree. Let’s check why John Cow is selling him blog:

This dude is moving, from Europe to Australia, and he will be busy finding a place to live. As he arguments, he will be very busy doing this, and it is reasonable. Cow is a very persistent blogger, I followed him. But as he says, he will not have time to attend him online business, so he prefer to leave it.
It is a good reason but Cow, if I were you, I would not sell it. Instead, I would hire many guest bloggers, to keep my blog updated for a couple of weeks, may be months. He is a popular blogger, he has many subscribers and people who would like to post on him blog. Also, he can find help with bloggers like Darren, Chow or ME! (I’m a guest blogger already ).
these are the statistics of JohnCow.com

I don’t know if I would ever sell a blog. I totally agree with what you said. Blog isn’t just about a brand, it’s about the man or woman behind it - almost like a real friend. So to have that person sell his brand like a commodity might hurt some of his or her faithful subscribers.
But, nevertheless, if that’s the best way for him then getting some cash for it would not be a bad idea.

I thought there were a few bloggers at John Cow? Because the posts there are always written as “we”. If it’s a 1 man blog, it makes sense to sell to prevent the rot of the site, if otherwise he should just leave the site to his partner while he sorts out his personal matters…

Wow. Thats amazing. I could only dream to have that many visitors! lol.
I am jealous that he is moving to Australia….Tell him to take me with him! lol…
I think I would sell my blog too, if I could get a good amount of money for it. I would just start up a new one…

I don’t think that I’m going to sell my blog, maybe one of my smaller sites, but not the main site.
Are we close to some kind of collapse in the economy since many “insiders” are trying to cash in on their projects? JohnCow.com, Million Dollar Wiki etc….

I’m a little surprised that he was/is “only” making about $2500.
That aside, a blog purchase is very risky to the buyer for the reasons mentioned…subscribers don’t tend to give new owners very much time to impress them like the original, and the buyer may lose considerable funds if he tries to re-sell the blog.
I can see why he’s selling though. For on e thing, when buyiong a new house, an extra 25-50K can come in quite handy.

Lots of the big blogs have sold lately, but none have really seemed to have done much afterwards! I think the money people spend on buying these sites would be much better spent on advertising a new website!

I will sell my blog if the purpose is more important than the need.. But the question is, what’s the purpose?

I like the John Cow site. but I think it will lose some soul after it’s sold. It’s not like a liquor store where the customers won’t even notice the difference.

If you depend on link or site selling as a form of monetization you will definitely want to increase your http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa rank, because it will increase your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.
Hi,
To sell a blog that gets 2500 bucks per month for 25000 to 40000, I can see a good reason : make 25000 to 40000 instead of waiting something like 18 months. And then build another blog.
Or maybe he’s moving toward an activity that does not permit him to publish as often.
To buy a blog for such price has to be well thought.
