Should You Pay For eBooks?
Written by Mr. Javo
Through the Internet, there are thousand ebooks about everything. Internet marketing, blogging and SEO, are the most common topics of these eBooks but, should you pay to get that information? I would say that you should not.
Teach Yourself
What’s the difference between an eBook and the rest of the websites on the Internet? The organization. I have read many eBooks (all them for free of course), and I have to say that I have not found one that really taught me something great. I mean, none of them made me say wow, I had not idea about this!. None of them have taught me something that really worth a price. All these information, it is available on internet for free through blogs or websites, only that all these information it is unorganized and you must to search and collect it.
They Worth the Price?
When you going to buy an eBook (if you are going to…) You should research before to buy it. Questions like It really worth?, can I find this information for free?… Will help you to take the decision at the buying time. I never (and I will not) have bought an eBook, because I think that all these information can be found on internet for free. Before to buy an eBook, search on Google for the niche of the eBook and you probably will find more than that ebook can offer to you.
The Lie
Some days ago, I got a paid ebook for free through torrents. I thought that I was lucky because I got something that worth for many bucks for free! But when I read it, I laughed as you have not idea. The eBook cost about $90 and it is totally a scam. I am wonder about how can be this possible, what I read on that ebook is scam, all the information inside I knew it before start my blogging career. Now, the big question is: Why the people promote these eBook?
Why the people promote these scam? Mr. Javo respond: that is a simple question. Many people promote these scam for two simple reasons:
- They were swindled and they can’t accept it: this is selfish, I can’t understand it. If I get scammed by a program, I would post it here to let the people know about the scam.
- They get commissions for each sale: may be you get scammed, but if you can get a percentage of a referred sale, why don’t promote it? Many of these eBooks have a referral program, but again I have to say that this is selfish. Leave beside the money interests and tell to the others about the scam!.
I think that may be the business is not to learn about SEO, Internet Marketing or about the eBook’s niche. May be the business is to swindle the people and get commissions for that, so what is the point?
The Conclusion
I don’t recommend you to buy eBooks. If you want to learn about something, you should search through the big G. There are million of sites indexed on Google, and surely, at least on a handful (hundreds) should be the information that you need. Believe on yourself and in your knowledge, there is not better teacher than you. If you want to learn about something, just look into the infinite resources that Internet can provide you.

I’ve never bought an eBook in my life though I have downloaded a Harry Potter eBook just to see how an eBook is like. I was so surprised! It was the draft of the book, not the actual book so there were so many typos and grammatical errors!
Great post, Javo! It’s going to help people avert scams!
I have bought eBooks. But they are usually in paperback first - then they turn them into an ebook. I actually have a list somewhere that will give out free ebooks…will have to look around…

I think that ebooks should be free, but I also think it’s good for someone to want to earn from it. That’s why I think those people should put their ebook on paid-per-download sites. That way the reader gets organized free information, and the person who wrote the ebook gets to earn a bit of money per each download.
Everybody wins.

I’m totally agree with you Caren. I also think that you could place a donation’s link of paypal at the end of the ebook or something…
Why have eBooks when you can get all the tips from me for free! Matter of fact, I’m willing to help people individually to whoever wants it!

Any information available in a e-book is available for free in the internet , problem is finding them and organizing them in the correct way.Have to agree with Javo on the scam thing , most of the time people are selfish so they promote the scam

That’s a good point Mr. Javo. Before attempting to buy an e-book, it would be better to search first the internet.. Most often than not, the information you are looking for is available for free..

I think this is an over-generalization. I have purchased e-books that I’ve found useful. A couple of them sit in a folder on my desk and I’ve returned to them again and again for reference. To be fair, I also have several free e-books on my hard drive that aren’t worth the price of toner and paper to print.
An e-book is simply a form of media. Yes, some of them are worthless … just like some magazines and books you’d find in any bookstore. Others offer real value to the reader. Buyer beware.
Hello ShariV, may be I had not luck with the eBooks
, I made this post based on my experiences… If you have a good free eBook, feel free to share it with the community
.

I find these comments interesting - coming from a publishing house. Authors who write ebooks want to be paid. The editors who work on the book want to be paid. The Distributors (ebooks are distributed by the same company as print books - Ingrams in the USA and Gardners in the UK)
The publisher who invests in the book, pays listing fees, and pays to have the manuscripts compiled into the different formats (mobi, kindle, Adobe, Palm, MSreader, etc) wants to make their money back.
A lot of money goes into an ebook. And, surprisingly enough, more than 30 million ebooks are sold in the USA each year. This is a lot lower than the 26 billion for print books - but it is a viable industry.
I think that you are addressing the home-made ebooks available from websites, not those sold on Amazon.com, fictionwise.com etc.
I don’t think you should ever pay more than $15 for an ebook. If you see a topic you want, then go to somewhere like ebookmall.com and get THE EXACT SAME BOOK AS PRINT that was written by a real author.
(the guy who read Harry Potter read a pirated version stolen from the publisher).
I think e-book authors should offer an excerpt from the book they are offering for sale. This way you will get the feel of what the book is actually like. Not all people selling e-books are out to scam the public. If you buy from a reputable online store such as lulu.com you are sure to buy an actual book. They are much cheaper than store bought books and are professionally written. I have an e-book in the works on self help and Symptoms of Fibromyalgia. It is in downloadable form for two reasons. It is cheaper for the consumer because many people who have this disease can no longer work, and when ordering a book online you are charged shipping fees and have to wait for delivery. E-books are instant.
I agree there are a lot of scams out there and anyone who has been scammed will think twice about ordering a second time.
I agree just the other day i got swindled really got me angry.
but i think e book business is better for fiction books other then making money you know what i mean.
